Tootsie’s Nashville: The Beginning
Singer and comedian, Tootsie Bess, bought a lounge called Mom’s in the early 60s. She planned on naming the bar after herself, and hired a painter, who mistakenly painted the exterior of the building purple! That’s when she added ‘orchid’ to the name. Who knew the painter would make such a massive contribution to the name of a country icon?
Tootsie’s Nashville Wall of Fame
Tootsie’s World Famous Orchid Lounge is known for helping out struggling artists. Country singers from all over come to Nashville dreaming of making it big, and one day shining on the Ryman Auditorium stage just across the street.
Some country icons you would’ve seen grace the stage in Tootsie’s early days include Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Faron Young, and Patsy Cline.
